Lesson 7: Could you tell me how to go to the Tian'anmen Square?

Tian'anmen Square
Tian'anmen Square, which now holds 44 square meters' area, is the biggest city square in the world. In the center of the square stands the Monument to the People's Heroes and flag post, the daily flag-raising ceremony attracts innumerable people. Tian'anmen gate tower located in the north, while the Chairman Mao Memorial Hall is in the south; the Chinese revolution museum and Chinese history museum in the east stand far apart facing the Great Hall of the People, all above are the remarkable buildings in China.
The Imperial Palace
The Imperial Palace which was ever the imperial palace in both Ming and Qing Dynasty can also be called "The Forbidden City". And it is the biggest palace in the world, constructed in 1420 (Ming Dynasty). In Ming and Qing Dynasty, the imperial family regarded it as a place where they dealt with the political routine and spent their daily life. The imperial Palace is built on the south-north mid-axis. There're 6-meter-city moat and 10-high-city wall around. All the 9000 palaces are on a solemn and grand scale. They are constructed in completely timberwork structures, yellow-colored glaze tile roof, and blue and white pedestal, as well as decorated with magnificent and splendid paintings. The Chinese dragon is the symbol of ancient emperor, engraving everywhere notable in the palaces. The palaces are arranged along the south-north mid-axis, spreading out to the both sides and being straight in south and north, bilateral symmetry. The white marble path in the mid-axis, joining the major palaces, allows emperor to pass through only.
The Chairman Mao Memorial Hall
Chairman Mao is the chief founder and leader of the Chinese People's Liberation Army and the People's Republic of China. The Chairman Mao Memorial Hall is located in the south of the Monument to the People's Heroes in the Tian'anmen Square, and on the mid-axis of the Monument to the People's Heroes and the Imperial Palace. Chairman Mao's remains has been placed in the crystal sarcophagus in the center of the memorial hall for respect visiting.
